Here is an example of a kids Bible lesson icebreaker character skit using a present day character – a waitress. The main point is worship. This is taken from a KICKRiCKulum King n’ Me Bible lessons for kids.
This skit is unique in that part one of the skit leaves you hanging with an unresolved issue. The character returns after the kids Bible lesson for part two of the skit to bring closure to the issue.
This skit is basically a monologue where the character talks out loud to herself and doesn’t interact with anyone.
Pivot Skit 1– Sally the Waitress
Supplies: apron on that is VERY stained, pencil, chair
(Hair a mess, pencil behind ear, sitting rubbing feet.)
Work! Work! Work! My feet are killing me! “May I have another cola, could you please bring me some ketchup, oh waitress, this is cold.”
I don’t like people very much right now. I’m sooo tired of serving people and sticking my fingers in half eaten eggs. BUT there are bills to pay, kids to feed, oh and a new gold fish to buy. Last one jumped out o’ the bowl and… let’s just say his scales are nice and crispy. There’s always something.
I just want to quit my job, go home, and cry. Pauses… to regain herself, looks straight at kids. Is there anyone out there that cares and can help me!? (Walks out).
Here is part two presented after the kids Bible lesson
Pivot Skit 2 Sally the Waitress
Supplies: clean apron, pencil, pad
(Walks in, hair combed / clean apron on /pencil in hand holding pad. Walks to front of room, stands there for a moment just thinking and writing on pad, then says.)
This customer has been coming in week after week, always smiling, always leaves a good tip. Her name is Wendy.
Well today when Wendy saw how upset I was she asked if she could buy me a cup of coffee on my break. As I sipped on that cup of coffee Wendy told me why she is always so full of joy and kindness. It’s because of WORSHIP.
She shared that Worship is when you include God in all you do and love Him with all you are. Then you will have joy and He will work all things out for your good. I’ve been saved since I was a kid… but today I decided I’m going to live a life that WORSHIPS God.
I want to include God in all I do and love Him with all I am. I know I can face anything and do anything with God helping me. Thanks, Wendy. Next cup of coffee is on me. (Walks off smiling and writing in notepad.)
