Bible Stories For Kids
Kids Can Smell Out a Good Lesson
Bible stories for kids should smell sweet! Boring stinks!
Let’s look at some options for our children’s Bible story with the perfume.
- open a bottle of perfume, smell it. Make a face and open eyes wide
- shake your head – comment on how strong it is
- Maybe ask if they’ve used cologne or perfume, or maybe their older siblings

Wanna go further?
Before class – pour a little men’s cologne in a cup and ladies perfume in another cup.
Pass the cups around- ask the kids which one they like the most.
What’s the purpose of this?
Engage, involve, and build interest. Now children can relate better to what was happening in our Bible story.
I could also spray some air freshener around the room or light a fragrant candle or incense. I explain to the kids that when the
perfume bottle was broken, the fragrance flooded the room.
Now, which one will they remember?
When you read or just tell the story, they passively listen.
Yes, they hear, that’s one of the senses.
BUT…how ’bout when you use object lessons? They see, touch, smell, and hear! They experience the lesson. Hey, we used four of the senses!
Now, granted, we could use all five senses. They could taste the perfume too. C’mon I’m kidding…lighten up! Let’s not get greedy! Four of five senses works!
