Relay Races Help Kids Interact and Drop Their Guard Down

Bible games for children Relay Races are a great way to get kids to interact, stretch out, reinforce the lesson and well, just be kids.
Relays are a great icebreaker
and a way to get visitors involved and let their guard down.
Some kids hang back, are cautious and lack confidence to be able to do it.
They may choose not to take part in the relay. That’s fine, allow them to watch.
Some kids (like my very own child) are shy or they need to know they can be
successful. Often, once they observe how it works on the first run they ask to play.
But, if a child is still not into it or maybe physically unable to participate, involve them another way!
Give them an important job to assist you and help
run the game:
- Keep score and/or keep time
- Set up the course and maintain it during the game
- Hold an object in place such as a basket or box that is used in the relay
- Gather objects (like balls , Frisbees, balloons) and restock teams during or in between rounds
- Monitor certain aspects of the game – for instance – making sure instructions are followed properly, fairly and completely
- Assist younger players or anyone having difficulty with a part of the relay
- Start players at the proper time
There are many ways for kids to assist you and keep the relay running smoothly! So if someone is reluctant to play – no worries. Offer another way to be involved!
Never hesitate to modify the Bible games for children rules or objects for safety, age appropriateness, skill levels or physical limitations. Everyone’s situation /facility is
different.
If you create an alternate way to play – email us – we’d love to hear and we’ll post it on the website, modify the instructions or offer it as an optional way to play!
Safety Precautions
Always error toward safety with any Bible games for children. Use wisdom and common sense when you choose an area for a relay. Some relays may involve water and in this case, should only be used on a carpeted area to avoid slips and falls.
Clear out the area as much as possible. Some relays may say, “run” – change this to a walk or fast walk according to your room layout, space available and kids involved, etc.
Keep kids in their team lanes to avoid collisions
Competition
Many people have strong feelings about bringing competition into Bible games for children. That’s understandable. It depends on how the kids Bible games are approached and monitored.
Don’t let them get out of hand! Instruct kids to help and
encourage one another!
Do not allow any comments that are derogatory, demeaning or “trash talk”. Stop the game immediately if this occurs and remove kids
from a round if necessary.
As an alternative to team competition – play as a large group – one team working together to achieve the lowest time in a round.
